Birth, Death, and Transformation

Birth, Death, and Transformation

My large- scale acrylic paintings on canvas are created with the themes in mind of birth, death, and transformation. Through my own journey from maiden to mother, I had never thought of death so much as I did surrounding my pregnancy and birth, constantly contemplating my own mortality. For the past few years, I have been grappling with one of life’s transformative adventures, and trying to find my place in my role as an artist and caregiver.

My work captures feminine transformation and strength. Our inner journeys colliding with our surroundings. How we are alone, yet connected to all of humanity as we repeat the triumphs and sorrows of the ages.

Ancestry and childhood memories are where I gain not only my strength but my inspiration as I paint with the joy and love of my predecessors running through my veins.

Spiritual imagery in my work symbolizes hope and optimism even in darkness. My subjects exist like ethereal beings, vulnerable and raw as they never could be in our chaotic world. Surrounded by pattern, vivid color and floral imagery, the subjects I paint are vessels to express human emotion and truth. The temperamental and ephemeral nature of the natural world often comes into play throughout my work. I create a pathway and an open conversation to more deeply connect to nature and one’s own sense of self.
