When I was young my hands ached when my heart ached. There has always been a connection there. Something that called, more demanded creativity from me. It also demanded a path in the art of healing.
Often as creatives we can be labeled as sensitive by the outside world. This has been a constant in my world since childhood. I always, always took things personally.
I have journeyed around the world learning acceptance and healing around this trait.
I feel deeply and see colors more vividly. Through paint I am able to translate these large emotions to process my surroundings.
My journey as a healer started around the same time. My exploration and curiosity to it all. I was called to herbalism and crystals in New Zealand. To reiki and the wise woman in Portland. Movement, motherhood, and grounding in Bend. But always Art.
They call reiki "the laying of hands" traced back to the nuns in Catholicism. It finally made sense why my hands hurt and the power they had in them. They had the power to create and the power to soothe a soul.
My journey has often been an inward one, making sure a sensitive can survive in a high pressure world. I want to share some of my tools and skills I have learned with you to create a life around ease and peace and your soul.
- For soul protection as soon as I get home I require soft, unrestricted clothing.
- I use a weighted blanket and when life gets too tough you can find me in bed.
- I use the mantra "I am safe. I am loved" mumbling over and over until my panic subsides
- When my child skins her knee I instinctively cover the hurt with my hands and whisper "Reiki on."
- I pull a tarot card for grounding and guidance when I feel lost. This deck is awesome for beginners!
- I cook with love and magic. Be it a creative ancestral dish to heal my matriarchal line and reconnect to love, or a lemon, honey, ginger, cayanne pepper shot while swallowing ginger to chase a cold away.
- I use Bach's Flower essences and whisper intentions of love into my water or tea.
- My hands perform ancient symbols to start up technology or draw a calming bath.
- Noise canceling Headphones and Loop earplugs protect my auditory system from getting overwhelmed.
- I have recently been doing the daily somatic movements by The Workout Witch to find calm and release.
